PRESENTATION BY DR. MARK McKEE ON SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL NEEDS OF GIFTED AND TALENTED CHILDREN

Join us after winter break for a enlightening time as Dr. McKee will speak on the social-emotional needs of gifted and talented children.  The parent response was so great from his first visit several years ago that we have invited him back!  Please visit his website at www.drmarkmckee.com.

 

Dr. Mark McKee is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist specializing in services for Gifted Children, ADHD, Development Issues, School Consultation, School Adjustment Issues, and others.  Dr. McKee received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology (B.S.) and Master of Education Degree in Counseling Psychology (M.Ed.) from North Texas State University, and his Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology-Chicago.  He was on the faculty there for 17 years, teaching a variety of graduate courses including Infant, Child and Adolescent Development, Psychopathology and Psychotherapy.  He also served as Clinical Research Project Chair and Member for over 40 projects.  He has been on the Allied Medical Staff of Linden Oaks at Edward Hospital (Naperville, IL) since 1991 and developed the post-doctorate Child and Adolescent Fellowship Program which he directed until 2006. Dr. McKee is on the Medical Advisory Committee of Naperville, IL School District 203, and a Diplomate with the American Board of Psychological Specialties in Child Psychology under the American College of Forensic Examiners.  He is also a member of the APA, Council for National Registry of Health Service Providers in Psychology, and a Life Member of The National Registry of Who's Who--2000 Edition.  Dr. McKee is married and the father of a teenage girl and a teenage boy.

2)  DECEMBER 17, MONDAY, 9AM, BOARD OF EDUCATION CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MEETING ~ Meeting is held at District Administration Center conference room, 4175 Route 71, Oswego, (630) 636-3080.  Parents are encouraged to attend this meeting of the Board of Education's Curriculum Committee members and Administration.  Parents, come by and find out what is in the future for your children's education and what is happening in our district's Curriculum.

4)  JANUARY 17, THURSDAY, 12PM - 1PM, JOIN DR. STEPHANIE PACE MARSHALL ~ Parents are invited to join author Dr. Marshall at the Batavia Public Library for the presentation of her book: The Power to Transform: Leadership That Brings Learning and Schooling to Life. Dr. Marshall is the Founding President and President Emerita of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy.  She is an internationally recognized as a pioneer and innovative leader, speaker, and writer. Her book received The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International 2007 Educator’s Award.  The Batavia Public Library is located at 10 South Batavia Avenue, Batavia.  The event is free and open to the public.  A book signing will follow Dr. Marshall's presentation, and copies of her book will be available for purchase.  More information can be found at http://www.batavia.lib.il.us/BooksBetweenBitesflyer07-08.pdf &

INFORMATION AND NOTES:

1)  Springfield Day 2008, a day for families of gifted and talented children to visit Springfield, lobby for Gifted Funding, and tour museums, has been set for April 17, 2008, Thursday.  Grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends, and supporters are all invited to join.  Teachers can also bring a group of students to Springfield as part of a school field trip.  PACE had the greatest number of participants from throughout the state in Springfield Day 2007, and we are getting ready for Springfield Day 2008!  

 

Please visit PACE's homepage, www.pace308.org, to see more information and the Information Packet for families.  This Packet will give you information on What We Accomplished last year, Why Participate in Springfield Day, History of Gifted Funding, and other important information. 

 

It is many months away, but we are asking families to start emailing us now until weeks before the event at Springfield.day@sbcglobal.net if they have a slight interest in attending or want to let us know their interest.  Families do not have to confirm until one week before April 17, 2008.
