We have 8 items for you this week -
 
1)  PACE Membership - We are asking families who have not yet signed-up or renewed their 2007-2008 membership to consider supporting us.  Membership form can be downloaded at http://www.pace308.org/Membership.htm.  Your membership donations help pay for our programs and services including speakers, events, and webhosting.  With your help, we are looking to provide more programs and services for PACE families and all the families in our District.  Thank you for supporting PACE!
 
2)  PACE Library - One of the services we provide is the PACE library.  Please visit our webpage, http://www.pace308.org/PACE_Library.htm, to see what is available.  Along with several books, we have DVD copies of Dr. Sally Walker's presentation in our District on Best Practices in Gifted Education.  Dr. Walker is Executive Director of IL Assoc. for Gifted Children and author of many books including The Survival Guide for Parents of Gifted Kids: How to Understand, Live With, and Stick Up for Your Gifted Child.  Don't miss out; find out how our kids learn best from a State and National expert.
 
3)  Deadline is This Week for sending in Application for Advisory Committee to Review District 308 Math Program/Elementary Math Curriculum Renewal Committee -  Deadline is Sunday, September 30.  FAQ's and Application are on the district website, http://www.oswego308.org/.  This is an opportunity to positively impact the future of our AT students.  
 
4)  Updated Academically Talented(AT) Program website -  Many helpful updates on the AT Program are now available on our district website, http://www.oswego308.org/teachingandlearning/academicallytalentedprograms.htm.  We would like to thank our AT teachers and Mrs. Cathi Mundsinger, Director of Teaching and Learning-Elementary for the updates.  Please take a moment to look over the information.  If you have any questions, please send them to pace308org@sbcglobal.net for immediate response, or bring them to our upcoming October 23rd, AT Program Information Night with Mrs. Cathi Mundsinger.  More information about the Information Night will be coming in next week's update.  
 
5)  Upcoming Board of Education's Curriculum Committee Meeting - Meeting is on October 1, Monday, 9am, at District Administration Center - Conference room, 4175 Route 71, Oswego, (630) 636-3080.  Following topics will be discussed:
 - Curriculum Renewal Proposals for *Science, *World Languages, *Social Studies .5 Additional Credit, *Pre-Algebra
 - District Testing Results
 - Junior High School Design
 
6)  Upcoming Board of Education Meeting - Meeting is on October 1, Monday, 7pm at Oswego High School Community Room.  Meeting agenda can be found closer to the date at www.oswego308.org/districtinformation/boardofeducation/
 
7) Fermilab Workshop for Parents - Fermilab and SPARKS (Supporting Parents in Advocacy, Reform and Knowledge in Science) are presenting a two-day workshop for parents of children in grades  K-6.  "Explore ways to excite children about science at a two-day workshop Saturday, October 27th and Saturday, November 3rd from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Lederman Science Center.  Get ideas, materials, and practical information to help you and your child explore the wonders of science." Register online at http://ed.fnal.gov/ (click on “Calendar”) or call Nancy Lanning at 630-840-5588 for registration or call Sue Sheehan at 630-840-5058 for questions related to the workshop.  Parents will receive a $50.00 stipend after attending the two-day workshop.  Please check with Fermilab, but we believe there is no fee for the workshop. 
 
8)  Midwest Academic Talent Search(MATS) Testing - MATS is a program of the Center for Talent Development at Northwestern University that offers practice in taking Explore, ACT, and SAT tests for academically talented students in grades 3-9.  Testing is offered at many nearby locations.  To register, go to http://www.ctd.northwestern.edu/.  Please use MATS ID# 8001691 when registering.  This ID# has been assigned to Oswego308 students.
