FAQ from Parents
Please send questions related to A.T. program or general curriculum to pace308org@sbcglobal.net. All questions will be handled confidentially unless parents ask that their names appear. We will find the answers for you and put them on this page.
The following are Questions and Answers from October 23, 2007, presentation on AT & AP programs:
Question: What do you do about the student who does not test well
on the EXPLORE test, but does well in advanced classes?
Answer:
The answer is that we look to more than one data point to
assist us in
making decisions about that student. The EXPLORE test gives
us one
piece of data (a strong, well-researched piece of data)
about student
achievement, but other factors are definitely taken into
consideration
when placing students in courses at our high schools.
More information regarding the EXPLORE test can be found at
www.act.org.
Question:
Can an 8th grade student audit a
high school
course?
Answer: We do not currently allow for this. Auditing is
used at the
high school level, but only on a limited basis because the
benefit of
doing so is usually outweighed by other alternatives. The
audit option
is explained in the HS Course Catalog (on the district
website as well).
The HS counselors would be happy to discuss options with
any parents
who contact them. Refer to the HS Websites to see the
counselor alphabetical list to know which counselor to call.
