February 22, Friday, 7pm - 8:30pm, Churchill Elementary - PACE Annual Hands-On Science Night FOR ALL FAMILIES IN OUR DISTRICT-
This is our popular Science night for All children in our school district, pre-school to junior high. We are expecting Fermi-Lab, Mr. Science, and other presenters. Stay tuned to find out what will be store.

March 3, Monday, 6:30pm - 8:00pm, Plank Junior High, Summer Activities Fair FOR ALL FAMILIES IN OUR DISTRICT -
This evening is opportunity for parents to find out all the summer programs that are available for their children. Come by and talk to the representatives about the various programs. They can give you the scoop on the various programs and which programs will suit your child's interest.

April 17, 2008, Thursday, - 2nd Annual Visit Springfield Day
In 2007, over 75 PACE parents and children visited Springfield to ask our legislators to restore gifted funding in the state's education budget. Out of all the parent organizations in the state that traveled to Springfield, PACE had the largest number of people and made a huge impact with our legislators. Our AT parents care about the education of our children. Please join us again as we make another, maybe even bigger, impact in restoring gifted funding.

April/May 2008 - 2nd Annual AT Teacher Appreciation Night
Over 180 people attended our first annual event! Mr. Freeze from Fermi-Lab wowed the audience with amazing experiments. We are looking forward to another fantastic celebration of our AT teachers and our students.

Randee Blair retired from Evanston School
District 65 in 2005 as a Curriculum Coordinator in
Gifted and Math. She is also an author of several
educational publications.
Susan Corwith recently earned her PhD in
Educational Leadership with an emphasis on gifted
programs. Prior to joining CTD she was the president of
the Wisconsin Center for Academically Talented Youth in
Madison, Wisconsin.
George Peternel retired from Golf School District
67 as a Principal. Subsequently, he served as the
Director of Head Start in Lake County and the
Coordinator for Project Excite.

OCTOBER 23, TUESDAY, 7PM, CHURCHILL ELEMENTARY - PRESENTATION ON ACADEMICALLY TALENTED (AT) & ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) PROGRAMS Grades 3 - 12 - Join us at Churchill Elementary Community Room, 520 Secretariat Lane, Oswego (Wolf Crossing & Secretariat Rds.) for the Presentation on the whole AT Program / AP Program covering grades 3 through 12. Mrs. Cathi Mundsinger, Director of Teaching & Learning - Elementary, and Dr. Carla Johnson, Director of Teaching & Learning - Jr. High & High School, will be our featured speakers along with the coordinators for the AT elementary and AT junior high programs and the AP high school program. Come learn about the AT elementary program from 7-7:45 PM, and the AT secondary/AP program from 7:45 -8:30 PM. This program is open to ALL families in the district interested in learning about the AT/AP program in District 308. Question & answer time will follow each part of the presentation.
This event is for ALL parents in our school district.
September 2007 - Elementary and Junior High Curriculum Nights
At curriculum nights, PACE members will share information such as our speakers, events, and activities during AT teacher's parent meetings, in AT classrooms, or at a PACE table.

Over 75 PACE parents and children met with Representative Tom Cross in Springfield on April 18. Members traveled to Springfield as part of "Please Don't Leave Our Children Behind" Day sponsored by IAGC - Illinois Association for Gifted Children- & local parent organizations. Over 650 parents and children from all across the state joined in asking our legislators to restore gifted funding in the state's Education Budget. Representative Tom Cross was one of two speakers who addressed families from throughout the state and stated he will do all he can to help restore funding. We thank Representative Cross for generously sharing his time and deeply caring for the children in his home School District and children throughout the State of Illinois.

“Understanding your Gifted Child at Home and at School.
6:30 - 7:30 pm
Naperville Central High School Little Theater
Mark you calendars for an evening with Dr. Bertie Kingore, a nationally known expert on gifted education. “Gifted students have vast differences and needs that many people do not understand. In this practical session parents are guided toward interpreting the pattern of abilities and strengths of their gifted child. Suggestions are shared for nurturing talents at home.” Dr. Kingore will also be a featured speaker during the County Institute for teachers and staff on March 2nd. She will make two presentations which focus on “Understanding Giftedness” for K-3 students and 4-8 students.
ICE AGE ADVENTURE WALKS
At the Morton Arboretum, south and east of the Children’s
Garden,
“illustrated panels about Ice Age plants and animals line the
Pine Family Trail on this self-guided walk.” Docent led-walks
for all ages run through February 25, meet in Arbor Court,
Saturdays: 11:30-12:30 pm, and Sundays: 2-3 pm.

A $5 donation per family, at the door, is requested to help with the cost of materials for this event. All funds are used to help provide educational opportunities for all students in District 308.

General admission to the museum is FREE for all visitors from February 1 through February 21!

Winterfest with Naperville Park District

At Cowlishaw Elementary School (Naperville School District)
FREE! Bring the family and spend the day! Demonstrations by Mad Science, Cricket Sporting Academy, Irish Dancers, crafts, and door prizes.
This year's Family Open House at the Department of Energy's Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory will be 1:00 to 5:00PM.
Organized by the Fermilab Education Office, the event offers free family-style hands-on activities and exhibits, make-and-take projects, science shows and tours.
See Ben Franklin's experiments, Mr. Freeze's cryogenics show and enjoy fun activities for all ages.
More than 2,000 people are expected to attend. Registration is required.
